Eel Grass Mitigation

A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) provided two Biological Science Technicians during an eel grass mitigation project associated with Boston’s Logan International Airport runway expansion project. A percentage of eel grass needed to be harvested from the construction area and then replanted within a one month period.

The AIS Biologists, with experience working on small vessels, assisted with the eel grass harvesting. They worked with the harvesting team to collect eel grass from plotted eel grass beds, determined the viability of shoots, and packaged them for delivery to the planting teams.

The biologists participated in daily safety meetings and assisted with the dive operations. During diving operations they served as safety monitors and tracked the divers relative position communicating it back to the vessel operator.
