On September 13th AIS was awarded a task order to continue to manage the Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office (GARFO) Port Biological Sampling Program. AIS Environmental Technicians are tasked with collecting biological samples of commercial species from Maine to North Carolina according to protocols from the Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC). Samples are requested from 35 species of fish and shellfish and consist of length measurements, age structures, and a total weight of measured individuals. Since AIS began this work in 2014, our staff has successfully collected 1,135,333 lengths and 202,401 age structures while adhering to the Biological Sampling Requirements Summary. Data for the Port Biological Sampling Project is collected from a variety of locations ranging from fishing vessels to licensed commercial dealers. AIS is pleased to continue to support GARFO through this project.
