Protected Species

A.I.S., Inc. has been a leader in the field of protected species monitoring since incorporation.  We have over twenty-five years of experience monitoring protected species for population assessments as well as mitigation requirements during marine construction projects and seismic surveys.  A.I.S.  employs a large full time staff of highly trained marine biologists and experienced marine mammal observers (MMOs).  This large staff coupled with an extensive data base of available NMFS approved and Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) certified MMOs enables us to complete projects of any size and duration worldwide.

Our team of MMOs is directed by a management staff of knowledgeable scientists that provide project planning, management and logistical support throughout the project. A.I.S. possesses the skills and experience necessary to design and implement a successful monitoring plan in accordance with the mandates of government agencies, specifically the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA).

As a premier provider of MMO services in the United States we understand the important role that mitigation and monitoring for sensitive marine species plays during the planning, survey, construction, post-construction and decommissioning phases of marine projects.  We work closely with our clients to design a monitoring plan that meets the regulatory requirements as well as their budgetary constraints.  A.I.S. currently offers aerial monitoring, ship based monitoring and we can complete passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) when necessary to supplement visual observations.  We continue to follow the technological advancements and software improvements being made in the PAM field.  We are currently working with clients and partners to test emerging technologies that aim to improve our monitoring capability and increase the services we offer to our clients.
